First of all, as every one of us know that Bhutan is one of the least visited destination and hardly even after the introduction of Tourism/21st century technology, Bhutan still remains a mystery land to many around the globe. Bhutan is referred to as the last Shangri-La clothed proudly with abundant natural beauty and its rich heritage. However the land is also known for its unique culture and tradition which is kept unharmed through centuries. Thus, it does not matter when you are coming but including Bhutan in your travel destination list or not does matter. For your kind information, Bhutan is blessed with four ideal seasons a year i.e. spring, summer, autumn and winter. As acknowledged there is nothing to do with season after all four seasons have its own specialty. Spring (March, April, May)
Season wise, spring and autumn are the best time to be in Bhutan mainly due to its favorable weather. Therefore, we recommend our valued clientele including the nature lovers to consider visiting Bhutan by mid- March, April and in May. Flowers would be on full bloom sometime by April which helps décor the countryside perfectly. This time of the year you will get to witness ample of birds and other wildlife species when they are busy harvesting and migrating. For your kind notice, the Paro Tshechu usually takes place in second week of April. Hoteliers will be overwhelmed with good business and Druk Air tickets would be fully sold out by January which indicates the visitor’s volume. There are other factors which draws plenty of visitors during this season making it almost impossible to find accommodation and that’s one good reason why to book season holiday package much prior to your arrival date to ensure better services. Gomkora Festival (Trashigang) The Jakaranda blossoms at Punakha Dzong in mid-May. Jomolhari Trek & Drukpath Trek from mid-April till end-May.
Autumn (September, October, November - fall)
Autumn (fall) is another high and crowded season other than spring. Though Bhutan does not offer anything special during this time of the year, the mild weather in autumn makes it a perfect time to visit Bhutan. There are other activities and events taking place such as Thimphu Festival, Black-Necked Crane Festival in the beautiful valley of Phobjikha. By October month – time to harvest farmers in Bhutan prepare to collect the yield after a year-long labour. Other interesting festival is “Diwali” which is celebrated by the southern Bhutanese throughout Bhutan. Another crowded festival calendar, is in central Bhutan; Jakar - Jambay Lhakhang Drup & Prakar Tshechu. There is lot other event and festivals and one of the most renown is the mysterious Jambay festivities.
Summer (June, July, August)
This is to inform our valued customers that it is not like other part of the world whereby summer is unbearable and precarious. It is infact the best time to travel if you would like to avoid visitor’s traffic, higher tariff and the cold of winter coz there are less people travelling during this time of the year. If monsoon is late, the whole of June will be great for traveling. Monsoon will be on its earnest in July or in August. Having said so, our personal experience with monsoon in Bhutan has been limited to afternoon light shower once every two to three days. Some outlying district such as Gangtey can be given a miss as the country road can be swollen with mud making the travel impossible. Apart from that we don’t have much of a problem with summer. There are festivals such as Nimalung Tshechu, Kurjey Tshechu etc to celebrate and visit very important holy sites of Guru Rimpoche. During summer very limited tourists travel due to the lack weather knowledge and immoral opinion coz many think that Bhutan experience hazardous monsoon like other around the globe. However, there is nothing as such, rather it experience moderate light rain making the environment dust free. Seeing is believing –why don’t you find out yourself?
Winter (December, January, February)
Winter is probably another best time of the year and it offer clear views of the stunning mountain peaks covered in snow. There are idle place to view the Himalayan peaks and that is from Dochula, Chelela pass and so on. The temperature will not be too cold yet as lowest temperature usually takes places near the end of January. In January or February, Paro and Thimphu may experience a one - two day snowfall. Punakha Dromche & Tshechu in February - The Punakha Dromche & Tshechu is week-long celebration of the founding of Bhutan in the 1600s. The festivities take place around the ancient capital and most beautiful Dzong in Bhutan. The mild weather of lower Punakha also makes this town a great winter escape for the Bhutanese. Trongsa Tshechu - The Trongsa Tshechu takes place in the Trongsa Dzong, is an intimate affair with only a small handful of attending travelers. This festival has some of the most elaborate festival costume for the dancing lamas. Expect snowfall in mid-Jan till early February. Extreme weather and heavy snowfall may render the roads to central & eastern Bhutan un-passable.
